“I have known that I wanted to be a physician since I was in elementary school, goodness knows I did not anticipate that I would not get to medical school until 8 years after I graduated from undergrad! Since I took the long, winding route to medical school I have had the opportunity to live overseas (Terceira Island, Portugal), work as an aide at The Headache Institute of Texas and discover a love for outdoor adventure and helping others find their way. As a first-generation college student I had no idea how to navigate college or professional job searching, let alone applying for medical school. Although I wouldn’t change the experiences that I’ve had from taking the long road, I hope to be able to support students with backgrounds like mine navigate the path to a medical career, because medicine from the start is a team sport.”
