Mentorship

As part of our mission, our goal is to help train the next generation of healthcare professionals in providing more compassionate and effective care, and to help them develop them the skills necessary to become future leaders in healthcare to lead the way for the development of practical healthcare initiatives. Our mentoring program is the result of a collaboration with Long School of Medicine and UIW School of Medicine to mentor incoming pre-medical students to help them achieve their goal of attending medical school.

As a Mentor:

As a WeLEAP Mentor, you have the opportunity to inspire and guide future physicians by sharing your experience as a medical student. Mentors play a key role in:

– Offering insight into coursework, studying, and professional development.

– Providing encouragement and practical advice through regular check-ins.

– Participating in WeLEAP events and panels to share personal experiences.

– Modeling professionalism, empathy, and balance–core values of compassionate care.

 Being a mentor is not just about teaching. It’s about building a legacy of leadership and support within our medical community.

As a Mentee:

As a WeLEAP Mentee, you’ll gain personalized guidance from medical students who’ve walked the same path you’re beginning. You’ll:

– Receive one-on-one mentorship tailored to your goals and questions.

– Learn about the medical school application process, study strategies, and life as a future physician.

– Access panels, workshops, and written resources designed to help you succeed.

– Join a community of peers and mentors who are invested in your growth.

 With your mentor, we hope you leave the program more confident, better prepared, and supported by a network that extends throughout the San Antonio healthcare community.
